Church growth redux…more like gorging!

Awhile back I talked about several churches in my area building multi-million dollar churches. Well one of the close ones has started sending out mailers to the area, with a you can check out here. Now look at that thing, is it not enormous! If you read further down on the page, noticed what is says” Phase 1″. THIS IS ONLY PHASE ONE!!!

I need to look for the news article, but I think this thing costs around $15 million. I found this part interesting:

Buildings and facilities are not the priority to us. People are. However, we need buildings and facilities to help us effectively minister to the people we are reaching each week. The sovereign blessing of God, the faithful prayers and unparalleled generosity of our people are making all of this possible.

Are you sure God wants you to build this monster thing?

I noticed this in their FAQ:

Q - I understand Crossroads believes the best way to live is to be debt free. Do I have to be debt free to become a member?
A - No. But we would love for all of our members to be debt free. We encourage you to take advantage of the many great resources available in our bookstore to help you get started on the road to becoming debt free.

Also under the pastor’s information:

They also purchased 145 acres on south 360 (the largest north/south highway between Dallas and Fort Worth) to relocate the entire ministry.
(emphasis mine)
Now it is not impossible for them to be paying cash for this “structure”(more like an arena if you ask me), but I doubt that a church is that liquid, but they could be if you look at their soon to be old church (Notice the 3 story authentic children’s CASTLE on the left in the middle.) I suppose if a large majority of your church people are completely debt free, also meaning NO mortgage, then it is quite possible that they have saved enough money over the years to pay for this thing. As soon as I have an address for this place, I will come back and let everyone know how much is owed on this thing, if any.
