In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
When you go onto read the rest of the chapter we learn that Jesus was the Word, and all things were created by him, among other things:
3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Now Jehovah Witnesses butcher verse 1 up as it clearly shows that Jesus was not created. They change the last word “God” to “a god”, so it will fit their twisted beliefs. Of course this should cause problems, as now Jesus is a lesser god as I was told in bible study years ago. So how many gods are in this verse now? 2?
JW’s focus a fair amount of time on this verse probably since it requires the most brain washing. The funny thing is, their own interlinear of their bible shows this being translated as “God.” This book, which I am not sure if it is still available, has the original language on the the left page( so for the NT it is greek) and right below that is what I assume is the literal translation. On the right page, is the final product, the New World Translation, what they use today. Here is a little factoid for everyone, JW’s in some parts of the world have to use the KJB for whatever reasons, so they either correct all the mistakes, like where people worship Jesus, or just say they have a bible full of errors. Sound familiar? Cough…scholars…cough. Excuse me!
JW’s also believe that Jesus was God’s first creation, or that is what I remember.
