Christian music and the gospel
Now I have severely cut back on my music intake, mainly only listening to talk radio. But for amusement and curiosities sake I will turn to the Christian music stations in my area, which total 3(1 contemporary, 1 even more contemporary, and a “hard-core” christian rock station). I have heard christian artists say that God is using them to spread the gospel through their music, but has any one actually listened to the lyrics? I have and still haven’t heard it. Sure, I have heard the reference to God and Jesus a few times, but nothing that compares to the gospel found in the scriptures. I will admit that there are some artists who are more offensive(meaning their music will never go mainstream because it can be easily discerned that their lyrics are christian in nature) but most of what I have heard is watered-down-feel-good-play-on-your-emotions fluff music. A large amount of the lyrics you hear are so vague that you can assume it is talking about Christ since it is on a Christian station but if you played in a muslim country, they would think it was about allah, or buddha for a buddhist country.
Some even think that the acceptance of “Christian” bands in the mainstream/secular music world is a good sign. Now a sign of what, I don’t know, I guess the whole USA spiritual revival all over again. P.O.D is one group often claimed as a Christian band, but goto http://www.av1611.org/index.html and read the expose along with some of their lyrics, and ask yourself, “Is this the gospel?”
Here is a few questions for individuals who believe they must be “all things to all men” i.e. meaning to witness to bikers, you have to dress, tattoo and act like a biker to reach them:
If we have to use hardcore heavy metal “Christian” music to reach the lost of this generation, to what extreme will we have to go to reach the lost of the next generations?
What does the bible say about doing evil that good may come?
